Failure, it’s an old and dear friend. It hasn’t always been but I’ve learned to welcome failure, it shares wonderful stories for us all to learn from.

Failure strikes some people with fear and they go into their primal fright brain, frozen, and they stop moving. They don’t even begin. Failure isn’t even an option. But neither is success. They didn’t even begin down the path toward living their dreams because fear held them hostage.
Do not be held hostage by fear. Failure is not the worst thing that can happen. Not having begun is.

It probably seems easy for me to say, not being the one in your shoes, debating the steps and journey toward success as the cold fingers of fear grip you neck to bowel. But I have been. I’ve been on the cusp of change, on the cusp of adventure, on the cusp of a new endeavors, at the moment when I could abandon everything or jump in. Well, not always jump. Sometimes I’ve dipped in a toe and then slowly submerged myself in my new path toward a goal.
I didn’t always make it to my goal and I never got there the way I had mapped out at the beginning. A real adventure is full of detours and happenstance. That’s where failure becomes your companion on the journey.

Here are some keys toward welcoming failure:
- Begin
- Have a specific goal
- Use your network
- Maintain drive and commitment
If you have the above ingredients then you have started on the path toward your goal with companionship and counsel with energy and devotion toward a goal. When failure strikes, you’ll be ready to assess what didn’t work, make corrections and try again. Use your network to find strategies and best practices.
Failure isn’t losing, it just means something didn’t work out. Losing is not even trying to begin with.
Try. Begin. Welcome failure. Enjoy your success.

I’d love to hear what failure has meant to your successes. Leave a comment.
From a place of love,
Jen
